Privacy notice

This notice explains what personal information TISS collects, why, who it goes to, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

The responsible party is TISS Corporation. Our Information Officer is Nkululeko Tsela, at support@tisscorporation.africa.

What we collect

• About you: your name, email address, cellphone number, and your business's name.
• Your domain: its name, its owner's details, and its records (the settings that point it at your website and email).
• Your order: the plan, your quotes, invoices and payment references.
• What you ask us to do: your change requests, and notes of our calls and messages.
• Domains you check: the free check looks up a domain's public records. We don't keep a check unless you order.
• How you use this website, if analytics is switched on: pages visited and the kind of device, through Google Analytics cookies. We send it a domain's ending (such as .co.za), never the domain itself. This doesn't identify you by name.

We never see your card or banking details. You pay through PayFast, which handles them.

Why we use it

• To register, move, renew and look after your domain: the service you ordered.
• To reach you, including confirming it's you before we release a transfer code or change an owner.
• To email you about your order: your receipt, renewal reminders, changes we've made.
• To keep the invoices and records the law requires.
• To improve this website (analytics).

We don't sell your information, and we don't use it to advertise other companies' products to you.

Who it goes to

• The registry and registrar for your domain's ending: a domain's owner and contact details must be given to them, and some registries publish parts of them (the "WHOIS"), as their rules require.
• PayFast, which takes your payments.
• Our email delivery provider, which sends the emails about your order.
• Google, for website analytics, if it's switched on.
• The company that hosts this website and our database.

Some of these companies store information outside South Africa. We only use companies bound by data protection rules at least as strong as POPIA's.

How long we keep it

Your account, domain and order details: while you're our customer, and for 5 years after, for tax records.

Keeping it safe

Your information is only available to the people at TISS Corporation who need it to look after you. Passwords set on this website are stored scrambled (hashed), so nobody can read them, us included. We'll tell you, and the Information Regulator, if we find your information has been accessed without permission.

Your rights

You can ask us, free of charge, to:

• tell you what personal information we have about you, and give you a copy;
• correct it, or delete what we no longer need;
• stop using it for anything other than the service you ordered.

Email our Information Officer at support@tisscorporation.africa. We'll confirm it's you on the number or email we have for you, and answer within 30 days.

If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
